On February 7, 2019, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and the Senate Committee for Commerce, Science, and Transportation conducted a hearing on the future of 5G wireless technology and its upcoming impact on American lives and the economy. Wireless industry representatives got a grilling when they admitted the industry has never done any health and safety studies on 5G technology. Compared to this, thousands of independent studies have already shown that 5G is a risk to all biological life and needs massive EMF protection protocols.
Wireless industry and government agencies blasted
After the admittance, Sen. Blumenthal raised concerns with the lack of any medical or scientific research on 5G’s potential health risks. The senator also blasted the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for failing to conduct any studies into the safety of 5G technology. The FCC and FDA are federal government agencies tasked with ensuring that mobile phone technologies are safe for public use.
In December 2018, Blumenthal, along with U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA), sent a letter to FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr to get answers regarding possible adverse health effects from 5G technology. However, the letter remained unanswered. Thus, during the February 7, 2019 hearing, Blumenthal blasted Carr for failing to provide proper answers. The senator also decried Carr, the FCC, and FDA for their “unsatisfactory general statements” that can even be found on both agency’s websites.
No support for independent studies
Further grilling the wireless industry representatives, Blumenthal questioned them if they have ever supported independent research on the safety of 5G technology and its potential links to radiation, cancer, and other adverse health effects. The wireless industry representatives conceded that they never have.
If one were to open the FDA website and read through it, one could find only basic, cursory, and superficial citations to existing scientific data. The FDA then washes its hands, Pontius Pilate style, by “urging the cell phone industry to take a number of steps, including support (sic) additional research on possible biological effects of radiofrequency fields for the type of signals emitted by cell phones.”
In conclusion, Blumenthal lamented the fact that there is no ongoing research and that where the health and safety of the American people are concerned, the wireless industry is just “flying blind.” Also, the FDA and FCC have failed to explain how they have arrived at the fact that 5G is safe.
